The guide

How to build a dental website that brings in patients

A dental website has two jobs. It has to help a nervous or busy patient decide to book with you, and it has to meet the rules that apply to dental advertising in the UK. Here is how we plan, write and build dental clinic websites, and what we check before one goes live.

1. Plan the site around patients’ questions

Most people arrive on a dental website with a single question: can you fix my problem, how much will it cost, and can I get an appointment soon? Good site structure answers those questions in as few taps as possible.

  • A treatments hub with one page per treatment — dental implants, clear aligners, veneers, composite bonding, whitening, crowns and bridges, root canal treatment, hygiene, children’s dentistry and emergency appointments. One page per treatment ranks better than one long “services” page.
  • Every treatment page follows the same pattern: who it’s for, what happens step by step, how long it takes, recovery, risks and alternatives, fees or a “from” price, finance options, real before-and-after cases and short FAQs.
  • A clear fees page. Patients compare prices before they call. Showing “from” prices and what’s included builds trust and filters out enquiries that were never going to book.
  • Team, practice and contact pages with real photos, opening hours, parking, step-free access and the languages your team speaks.
  • Location pages if you have more than one practice, each with its own address, map, team and opening hours.

2. Meet the GDC’s advertising guidance

The General Dental Council treats your website as advertising. Under its guidance, a practice website should show:

  • the practice name and the address where treatment is provided, plus an email address and telephone number;
  • each dental professional’s qualification, the country it was gained in, and their GDC registration number;
  • the GDC’s contact details or a link to the GDC website;
  • your complaints procedure, and who patients can go to if they’re unhappy with your response — the NHS body for NHS treatment, or the Dental Complaints Service for private treatment;
  • the date the website was last updated.

Titles matter too. Only dentists on a GDC specialist list can call themselves a specialist, and memberships or fellowships shouldn’t be listed as abbreviations that could mislead patients. We build these details into your team pages, footer and complaints page from the start, so they’re easy to keep up to date.

3. Keep claims, photos and reviews within the rules

  • Claims must be provable. The UK advertising code (CAP) applies to dental websites, so we avoid promises such as “painless”, “guaranteed results” or “the best dentist in town”.
  • Before-and-after photos should be your own cases, shown unedited, with the patient’s written consent.
  • Reviews should be genuine and verifiable. Linking to your Google reviews is usually the most credible option.
  • Prescription-only medicines can’t be advertised to the public. That includes anti-wrinkle injections, so facial aesthetics pages need to be written around the consultation rather than the medicine.
  • CQC in England. Dental practices don’t receive a CQC rating, but you can show that you’re registered and inspected. Practices in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland follow their own regulators, and we write for whichever applies to you.

4. Make it fast, especially on a phone

Most dental searches happen on a mobile, often in a hurry with toothache. Google measures real-world speed with Core Web Vitals, and a slow site loses both rankings and patients. We aim for:

  • the main content loading in under 2.5 seconds (Largest Contentful Paint);
  • pages that respond to taps in under 200 milliseconds (Interaction to Next Paint);
  • no layout jumping as the page loads (Cumulative Layout Shift under 0.1).

To get there we compress images to WebP, lazy-load galleries, use server caching and a CDN, avoid heavy sliders and autoplay videos, and keep plugins to a minimum. On mobile, a fixed bar gives patients one-tap call, WhatsApp, email and directions.

5. Local SEO: be found for “dentist near me”

  • One target per page: “dental implants in Brighton” belongs on your implants page, not your home page.
  • Consistent practice details — the same name, address and phone number on your website, Google Business Profile and directories.
  • Structured data (Dentist schema) with your address, opening hours and services, so search engines understand who you are and where you are.
  • Titles, meta descriptions and headings written for real searches, set up with Rank Math SEO Pro and checked with SE Ranking before launch.
  • Helpful content — patient FAQs and treatment guides answer the questions people type into Google and AI search tools.

6. Turn visitors into booked appointments

  • A clear “Book a consultation” button on every page, plus online booking if your practice software offers it.
  • Short enquiry forms — name, contact details, treatment of interest and a message is usually enough.
  • Emergency appointment information that’s easy to find, with same-day availability if you offer it.
  • Real photos of your team and practice instead of stock images. Patients want to see who will treat them.
  • Finance and payment options explained in plain English, approved by your finance provider.

7. Protect patient data

Anything a patient tells you about their health is special category data under UK GDPR. We secure every site with SSL, keep forms to the minimum fields you need, add clear privacy and cookie notices, run daily backups and keep WordPress, themes and plugins updated.

8. Treating international patients?

If you welcome patients from abroad, a multilingual site helps them trust you before they travel. We set up WPML with proper hreflang tags, so each language version ranks in its own market. We’ve built multilingual sites for clinics in Istanbul and Antalya, so we know what international patients look for.
